How Claiming a Google Listing Put a Dental Clinic on the Map

A dental clinic came to the agency convinced they needed a bigger advertising budget. When I searched for “dentist” plus their town, they did not appear anywhere on the first page. The problem was not their spending. It was that Google barely knew they existed.

This was one of the projects that got me genuinely hooked on SEO, because the fixes were concrete and the results showed up fast.

What I found

Their Google listing was unclaimed and half wrong. The address format did not match their website, the category was generic, there were almost no reviews, and the same clinic name appeared three different ways across directories. To a search engine, that inconsistency reads as uncertainty, and uncertain businesses do not get ranked locally.

What I did

  • Claimed and verified the Google Business listing, then filled it out completely: correct category, hours, services, and photos
  • Made the name, address, and phone number identical everywhere, on the site and across every directory I could find
  • Added the clinic’s town and neighborhood naturally into the page titles and content
  • Set up a simple, polite process for asking happy patients to leave a review

The outcome

Local SEO is slow until it is not. Over the following weeks the clinic started appearing in the local map pack for the searches that mattered, and the front desk began mentioning that new patients were finding them “on Google.” Reviews built up steadily, which reinforced the ranking. They never did increase the ad budget.

What I recommend

For any local business, the highest-return work is almost never a redesign or a bigger ad spend. It is claiming your Google listing, making your business details identical everywhere, and earning real reviews. It is unglamorous, and it wins. This project taught me that visibility is often an operations problem disguised as a marketing one.
