46 Minutes of Router Trouble

My home network runs through an IPKO modem in the middle of the room, feeding a router, a blue Linksys, that spreads the connection to six devices: a desktop, two laptops, two iPhones and an iPad, five over WiFi and one over a UTP cable. IPKO had also leased me a router of their own, sitting unused. Sixteen months in, I finally swapped it into the network, on the assumption that IPKO’s hardware would sync better with IPKO’s network than my other, unlicensed one.

It wasn’t. Two devices were on WiFi, 46 full minutes in, when I realized I had no internet at all. An hour of troubleshooting later, the answer was that the router IPKO had handed me simply refused to work reliably, a quality problem on their end, not mine.

I looked around online afterward and found roughly six different groups complaining about IPKO’s service, none of which anyone official seems to take seriously. And yet here we all are, still happily going out, paying for various IPKO services and never quite able to use what we’re paying for.
