A Social Network for Cyclists and Athletes

Found what might be the most genuinely useful social network for athletes. It’s called Strava. It’s free: all you need is a smartphone, logging every ride, run, or even a regular walk.

The part I find most interesting is that it keeps a running record of every outing, down to details like the exact route on a map, my speed and how long I actually spent riding. What surprised my family more than me was seeing my average speed, which wasn’t as high as I’d have guessed, just 41.8 km/h and only on a downhill stretch, of which Pristina has plenty.

At the end there’s a profile with your basic stats, letting you follow friends, compare results, race in a loosely competitive way and see the most popular routes for cycling around Pristina and the wider region.

If riding a bike with a smartphone in your pocket sounds like your kind of thing, I’d recommend downloading it and giving it a try. You can find me there under Valon B.
