If you genuinely don’t know what to do with yourself on a Sunday evening besides the usual laundry ritual, inspired by Prishtina Mon Amour, I decided to make an installation, or maybe a piece of art.
I started with research, which for me mostly meant a real storm of thoughts, otherwise known as brainstorming. On my second click of Albanian Wikipedia’s “Random Article” button, I landed on an entry titled “ORA” (Clock). My first instinct was, wait, Rita Ora, I should go without being asked, before reasoning that she’s clearly busy enough promoting Kosovo everywhere already and wishing her well regardless.
Next step: look at the clock on my wall, let my mind wander freely and think about what “the artists” would have made of this. I opened a text editor, copied Wikipedia’s definition of a clock into it, played around with the font, color and size, then printed it out.
Then I started waiting for visitors in the room, hoping for some kind of feedback. After a while I noticed that no one had actually registered that my installation was, in full, a printed sheet of paper with the definition of a clock taped up next to my actual clock on the wall.
In the end, I spent a slightly different Sunday than the usual cleaning routine. I learned pretty clearly that being an artist isn’t in my personality. No encouraging comments, no international award, no money. Went to bed, back to work the next day.
