Candidates connected to Partia e Fortë get name-checked as far back as 2011, as young people with ambition and interesting ideas in tech. A Deutsche Welle piece on Kosovo’s growing tech community picked up two of them.
On me and Elexoj: “Valon Badivuku, the 23-year-old University of Pristina student who led the team, said he thinks the language is a treasure. ‘If we send the treasure outside, they can have it too,’ Badivuku concluded. He intends to have Elexoj online and in business this week.”
On 17-year-old Gent Thaçi, evidence the country’s tech future looked genuinely bright: “I’m willing to do anything to help Kosovo grow,” he said. His team had spent the weekend building a near-shore Linux server administration system, so Kosovo wouldn’t have to outsource web hosting to places like India.
It’s a strange kind of continuity, watching the same handful of names surface first in a Deutsche Welle piece about Startup Weekend and later on a satirical party’s ballot.
